Why is Father's Day Celebrated?

Know the history and facts about this VERY SPECIAL CELEBRATION!

Fathers, as well as Mothers, are our most important figures in life! They have always provided us with the most unconditional type of love, as well as constant support, growth and life lessons. Father´s hold a very special place in our hearts. On today’s blog, find out everything about Father´s Day history and origin! TODAY WILL BE FATHER TALK!

Fun Fact: The nation’s first Father’s Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910, in the state of Washington. However, it was not until 1972, 58 years later when President Woodrow Wilson made sure that the day honoring fathers became a nationwide holiday in the United States. Father’s Day 2021 will occur on Sunday, June 20 in the United States, as well as in many other countries around the world! Most Latin American countries celebrate Father’s Day on June 20th or June 21st, and other countries like New Zealand and Australia, celebrate fathers on the first Sunday of September!

The date to celebrate the nation’s fathers did not meet with the same enthusiasm–perhaps because, as one florist explained, “fathers haven’t the same sentimental appeal that mothers have. But we truly ask everyone out there: why can´t we celebrate our fathers with a beautiful bouquet of roses as well? Roses have NO GENDER! We should definitely make roses and flowers a popular TREND to give as a gift to our beloved fathers or partners as well! Let’s break the stereotype!

👉On July 5, 1908, a West Virginia church sponsored the nation’s first event explicitly in honor of fathers, a Sunday sermon in memory of the 362 men who had died in the explosions at the Fairmont Coal Company mines in Monongah, but at that time was not enough to be considered an annual holiday!

👉The next year, a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd, one of six children raised by a widower, tried to establish an official equivalent to Mother’s Day for male parents. She went to local churches, the shopkeepers and government officials to convince them of her idea and she was successful: Washington State celebrated the nation’s first statewide Father’s Day on June 19, 1910.

Nowadays, statistics tell us that Americans spend more than $1 billion each year on Father’s Day gifts. WOW!! Now who’s ready to celebrate their amazing Father´s on June 20th?
